How vitamin C deals with the chlorine in New Zealand shower water
Vitae Infusion uses ascorbic acid, which is vitamin C, to react with free chlorine as the water passes through the cartridge.

25,000 mg of L-ascorbic acid.
L-ascorbic acid is vitamin C. It reacts with chlorine and leaves chloride behind.

A reaction, not a trap.
Activated carbon holds compounds on its surface. Vitae Infusion reduces the chlorine chemically instead.
Which chlorine is in New Zealand water?
Free chlorine. Taumata Arowai has no record of any New Zealand supplier using chloramine, and free chlorine is exactly what the certificate on this page tested.

How it was tested

Where Vitae Infusion sits in a Suhae head
Shower water moves through the head continuously, several litres a minute.
Vitamin C reacts first, then the particle filter catches sediment, then the plate shapes the spray.

Purea Core

Vitamin C shower filtration in New Zealand: what to know
Is it like a vitamin C serum?
No. A serum goes on your skin.
Vitae Infusion keeps the ascorbic acid inside the cartridge, where it reacts with the chlorine in the water.
What will I notice after fitting it?
Most people notice the smell first. Free chlorine comes off hot water in the steam, and once it is neutralised the shower smells of nothing but the scent you picked.
New Zealand town water is disinfected with free chlorine, which is the form the KEWI certificate tested.
Vitae Infusion, asked and answered
How does vitamin C neutralise chlorine?
Ascorbic acid is a reducing agent. It reacts with chlorine as the water passes through, so the chlorine is converted rather than held on a surface.
Does it work on New Zealand water?
Yes. New Zealand suppliers disinfect with free chlorine, and free chlorine is what certificate IW-230133 tested: not detected from 1,000 to 6,000 litres.
Taumata Arowai, the drinking water regulator, has no record of any New Zealand supplier using chloramine (its response of 9 August 2024).
Does it keep up with hot, fast water?
The reaction happens as the water passes through the cartridge, so the water does not need to sit. Radiance and Nourish run at 5.0 litres a minute, tested to AS/NZS 3662:2013, the Australian and New Zealand Standard.
How long does a cartridge last?
A Vita Refill typically lasts two to three months, depending on household shower use. Replacements cost NZ$29.90 and come in ten scents.
Which products include this stage?
Vita Refill fits Radiance, Nourish and Aura. Universal takes its own cartridge range.
