For renters

A removable shower filter for renters and flatmates

Two minutes by hand. Nothing drilled, nothing cut, and it unscrews when you move flats.

By hand, in two minutes

Easy on, easy off, in a rental or a flat

Screw-on Suhae models go on without drilling or new pipework, and come off when the lease ends.

No plumber

Screw-on fitting never touches the pipes behind the wall. Check your fitting with us first.

No modification

No drilling, gluing or cutting. Keep the original parts so the bathroom goes back the way you found it.

No trace

Take Suhae off, put the original head back, and the bathroom is as it was when you moved in.

Check your lease before installation

Tenancy agreements vary. Check yours, or ask your landlord or property manager, before changing any bathroom fitting.

Two minutes

Fitting a removable Suhae shower filter

Most Suhae models go on by hand. If the thread does not catch smoothly, stop and message us before reaching for tools.

A shower head turning off a wall arm, leaving the threaded fitting exposed.

Unscrew what is there. Anticlockwise, by hand. Put it somewhere you will remember.

The filter threading onto the same wall fitting.

Screw the filter on. Onto the same fitting the head came off. Hand tight is tight enough. Do not reach for a wrench.

The filter on the wall fitting with the original shower head back on the end of it, running.

Put your head back on the filter. Your own showerhead threads onto the other end. Run it for a minute and check both joins.

Moving out

Your Suhae moves flats with you

Keep the original head, put it back on moving day, and fit Suhae at the next place.

Keep the original head safe

Store it with its washers so the bathroom goes back as you found it.

A common reason people look

New flat, new town, different water

Water sources and treatment differ between suppliers and between towns. If the shower smells different at the new place, check what the new supplier publishes.

Same shower, new flat, and the bathroom smells like a swimming pool. That is free chlorine coming off the hot water.

New Zealand town water is disinfected with free chlorine. Taumata Arowai, response of 9 August 2024.

Free chlorine is the form the Suhae shower filter was tested against.

Compare your old supply with the new one

Wellington, Christchurch and most of Auckland are on soft water. What a move usually changes is the supplier, the source and how much chlorine reaches your shower.

Look up your city, or read the chemistry in full on chlorine, vitamin C and your shower.

Three common setups

Will it fit a New Zealand shower?

New Zealand showers use a standard ½-inch thread. After that, it comes down to space and shower type.

A fixed head on a wall arm with the filter between them and the clearance below marked.

Fixed head on a wall arm. The easy one. Check there is a hand's width of space below the arm.

A ceiling-mounted rain head with the filter in the drop and the height below marked.

Rail shower or ceiling rain head. Usually fine. It adds length in line with the fitting, so a ceiling drop sits lower.

A handheld head on a hose sitting at an angle on its cradle, with the filter above it at the wall.

Handheld on a hose. The hard case. See below before you order.

Handheld showers on a hose

Check the available clearance and whether added length or weight will affect the handshower cradle.

The adaptor nut is bulky, so in a tight recess there may not be room to turn it.

The filter adds weight at the top of the hose, so on some cradles the head will not stay pointed where you put it.

Some tight handshower setups may need a compatible swivel adaptor. Send us a photo before purchasing one.

Not sure which one you have?

Questions from renters and flatmates

Renting in New Zealand, asked and answered

Do I need my landlord's permission?

Tenancy agreements vary. Check yours, or ask your landlord or property manager, before changing a shower fitting, even when the product is removable.

Compatible screw-on SUHAE models need no drilling or permanent pipework, and your original head goes back on when you move out.

Will it damage the fitting or the thread?

A compatible fitting should thread on smoothly by hand. Stop if it cross-threads, leaks or requires force, and contact us before using tools.

What if I move again in six months?

Take it with you. Unscrew it, put the old head back, and fit it at the new place in the same two minutes.

Cartridge life depends mainly on water volume and household shower use, so the replacement interval continues after a move.

Does it slow the water down?

The Universal sits behind the head you already have and does not replace it, so what your shower is like is set by that head rather than by us.

Radiance and Nourish only

If you are replacing the head as well, both were measured at 5.0 litres a minute by Singapore Laboratory Services, tested to AS/NZS 3662:2013, the Australian and New Zealand Standard. How the plate does it.

Moving flats? Suhae comes too

Suhae Universal sits between the wall arm and your own head. No permanent changes, and it unscrews on moving day.
